Water to Coffee Ratio Guide
How much water should you use for how much coffee? This question gets asked a lot and the more familiar you get with home brewing, the easier it is to remember.
Blab recommends a ration between 1:16 or 1:17. Which means that for every 1 gram of coffee you use 16 grams of water. This plays out in the following ways.
Pour Over
For me it's easy to remember 30 / 500. So in my tired eyes, pre coffee state I know to weigh out 30 grams of coffee and pour until I hit 500 grams of water weight in the vessel. This also yields me 2 mugs of coffee in the morning, which is enough to get going.
Auto Drip Machine
using the same logic we just double the amount for our automatic dripper 60 grams of coffee and 1L of water. Which on our machine is the 8 cups mark, this make strong enough coffee for two of us to share a pot in the morning.
Aeropress
I use 15g of coffee and will fill the mug till almost full, which most of the time is around 250g in water. Aeropress has some wiggle room as you can use up to 20g of coffee for a single mug, if you want it to taste stronger.
